Forestry Planting

Summary of services

Initial property inspection.

Before we start any job we will visit the site with the owner and korero with them to understand what their vision is for the land our and then provide our recommendations/options.

Pre-plant preparation.

This step involves pest control and desiccation of any weeds or unwanted regrowth and cultivating the land so that the trees we plant can have the best chance at becoming established and growing to their full potential. It also involves mapping the area and planning any future infrastructure so that the area is clearly defined and accessible.

Sourcing and auditing tree stock.

We have a number of nurseries around New Zealand we source tree stocks from. Depending on the location and species of tree being planted, we will choose seedlings that are most genetically suitable for the environment the trees are being planted in.

When selecting tree stock we also think about things like location from the nursery, to minimise transportation and stress on the tree. And once tree stocks have been delivered they will be carefully inspected before being planted to ensure we start with the best quality possible.

Consult with Iwi, neighbours and council authorities.

Consultation with local Iwi, Council and other stakeholders is an important step in preserving and safeguarding all historic, sacred and culturally important places in and around the work area. As well as looking after areas of natural beauty and unique vegetation.

Quality control procedures during planting.

We have strict quality control procedures that we follow before, during and after the planting process. From checking tree stock on delivery, supervising and checking planting technique as the trees are being planted, and plotting the area to make sure the target stocking has been achieved.

Post planting survival counting.

Before the following planting season, we can assess the survival rate of the trees that have already been planted, and if necessary replace any stock that needs to be replaced.
